Denton Turns October Into a Month-Long Family Halloween Celebration
More than 400 free and low-cost events fill the official Halloween Capital of Texas.

Denton Halloween is back with more than 400 free and low-cost events running from Oct. 1 through Nov. 1.
The citywide celebration mixes family outings, local art, live music, markets, themed food and unusual Denton traditions rather than relying on one weekend festival.
Families can start with Hallo-Wing on Oct. 17, when Denton Enterprise Airport hosts an aircraft-themed trunk-or-treat and gives visitors a chance to meet pilots.
On Oct. 21, Nightmare on Elm Street brings the UNT basketball teams to a temporary court on the Denton Square for a community tip-off event.
The Oct. 24 Day of the Dead Festival combines music, Ballet Folklórico, vendors, art, a community ofrenda and the Twilight Lantern Parade.
That same afternoon, the popular Coffin Races send costumed teams and their handmade creations through downtown.
Downtown trick-or-treating closes the month on Oct. 31 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The schedule is broad enough that families can choose their comfort level, from playful daytime activities to haunted history and scarier attractions.
Denton’s identity as the official Halloween Capital of Texas now carries a state designation through 2035.
City officials say the celebration also serves local artists and small businesses by turning creative work into a month of shared experiences.
For 380 Corridor readers, Denton is close enough for a single outing but packed enough to reward a little planning.
Check individual event details, age guidance, tickets and parking before heading out because locations and schedules vary across the city. |
