Denton’s Free Tree Giveaway Helps Residents Grow a Greener Home
Registration is open for the city’s October 17 drive-through pickup

A free tree can become years of shade, curb appeal and neighborhood character, and Denton is again helping residents put down those roots.
The city’s 28th Annual Community Tree Giveaway is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, at the Denton Landfill, 1527 Mayhill Road.
Registration is open while supplies last for what the city describes as Denton’s largest and longest-running tree giveaway.
Each eligible household may receive one free tree through the drive-through pickup.
What residents need to know
The program is limited to City of Denton residents, and proof of residency is required at pickup.
Participants must register in advance and have a Denton Parks and Recreation account.
The city says registrants must be able to collect their tree on October 17 because no alternate pickup date is available.
Staff will review registrations to remove duplicates or ineligible entries, then send final confirmation details by email.
For homeowners, the practical value reaches beyond the day of pickup.
A well-placed tree can add shade and visual appeal while contributing to a greener neighborhood over time.
Residents should review the city’s 2026 species information before choosing and consider the mature size, sunlight, utilities and available planting space at home.
Because quantities are limited, interested residents should register promptly and wait for the city’s confirmation before making pickup plans.
The giveaway turns a simple city program into a long-term investment residents can watch grow outside their own windows.
