McKinney National Airport Secures $14.8 Million TxDOT Grant Amidst Economic Surge
McKinney National Airport receives a $14.8 million TxDOT grant for expansion, boosting its $299 million annual economic impact and supporting 1,560 jobs.

McKinney National Airport (TKI) has been awarded a substantial $14.8 million grant from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), marking a significant milestone in its ongoing expansion efforts.
This funding is earmarked for the construction of a new passenger terminal and supporting infrastructure, bringing the airport closer to offering commercial passenger services to the North Texas region.
The planned 46,000-square-foot terminal will initially feature four gates, with the capacity to expand to six, and will include amenities such as centralized food and beverage concessions, spacious hold rooms, and on-site car rental facilities.
Additionally, the project encompasses a new taxiway, a 980-space public parking lot, and essential utilities to ensure smooth operations.
Mayor Bill Cox expressed gratitude for the grant, stating, "Important progress is being made in constructing the terminal and other eastside projects as we continue to work toward welcoming commercial passenger flights in late 2026, and we are extremely thankful to TxDOT for this significant and supportive $14.8 million grant."
This development comes on the heels of a recent economic impact study by InterVISTAS Consulting Inc., which revealed that McKinney National Airport contributes over $299 million annually to the local economy—a 41% increase since 2018.
The study also highlighted that the airport supports approximately 1,560 jobs, generating $110 million in labor income.
Director of McKinney National Airport, Ken Carley, emphasized the airport's role as a vital economic engine, noting that its growth directly supports local jobs and boosts the city's economy in ways that benefit all residents.
With the combination of state funding and local investments, McKinney National Airport is poised to become a key player in the region's transportation infrastructure, offering convenient and competitive air travel options for residents and visitors alike.
As construction progresses, the community eagerly anticipates the enhanced connectivity and economic opportunities that the expanded airport will bring. |
