Celina's Downtown Center: A Bigger Library and a New Place to Gather

Celina's rapid growth is changing the skyline, but one of its most meaningful developments is happening in the heart of town. The Downtown Center and parking garage project aims to create a place where residents can read, gather, handle city business and spend more time supporting the surrounding historic square.

A library built for a bigger community

The city's official project page describes a planned 115,245-square-foot Downtown Center, including a 26,209-square-foot multi-floor library. That would represent a substantial expansion from Celina's existing roughly 2,400-square-foot library, with more room for reading, seating, technology access and programming.

For parents and students, the extra space could mean more comfortable study sessions, opportunities for events and a larger public resource close to home. For longtime residents, the downtown location reinforces the importance of gathering places at the center of community life.

Better access to the square

Parking is also a major part of the plan. The city says a garage with nearly 400 spaces is designed to ease access for residents and visitors. As downtown draws people for meals, shopping and events, parking capacity can matter as much as a new storefront.

The project description also includes city offices, landscaped areas and a rooftop gathering space intended to provide views of downtown and a setting for public events. The city emphasizes blending contemporary facilities with the established character of its historic core.

What happens next?

The city's posted project timeline lists December 2026 for Downtown Center construction completion. That is not yet a confirmed date for the library to open to the public, and readers should follow city updates before planning visits.

The momentum extends beyond the civic project. In September 2026, the city announced a partnership supporting $7.5 million of private investment in the redevelopment of two downtown properties, with restaurant, retail and office opportunities planned.

The encouraging part of this story is not merely the scale of construction. It is the possibility of building the kind of downtown where new families and longtime neighbors can share experiences, support merchants and feel connected as Celina grows.
